rose petals

Sun May 15, 2005, 3:37 PM
Has anyone here ever eaten rose petals? They are quite good. That’s one of the best things about living in California, San Jose particularly, the rose bloom from late February through September.
We have some many rose bushes in our neighborhood. I like to walk Scruffy and just pick and choose petals as I please. I only eat one at a time, savoring each pitter tang and burst of sweetness.
Since there is such a selection, I can afford to be picky when I go perusing. I try to avoid roses treated with pesticides. Bugs can just be brushed off but chemicals get into your body and do funny things when you’re not looking. Also, the petals are at their sweetest right after the plant has been watered and the petals are full and spongy. You have to pluck them in such a way that you get the ENTIRE petal, because the best part is in the base. I like to bite into that first and lest the juice flow over my tongue and seep into my cheeks and thought as I bliss out to natures glory. I prefer the white blooms to the red ones for their purity of taste; there is no bitter red pigment to get in the way of the taste of growing things and the undertones on nectar and life.
There is this romantic misconception that making love on a bed of rose petals is somehow romantic. Just think of all the crushed and beaten rose petals everywhere! What a waste! if my lover loved me, they would bring me roses in bed, and we would lie together and feed each other the fruits of the sun till we couldn't eat another one and then we would set the remnants of the bloom in blow of water to soak in the perfumes and spread the vapors around the room as we steam it up.
The say that if you love her, show it with roses, but store bought roses just aren't the same. They are dead and dry and taste of tears. Give me a hearty full bloom whose petals are all but falling off, her heart exposed for all to see, welcoming in the sun.

*blushes* thank you! I've never felt that writing was my strong point, but sometimes I hit on something good and I have to write it down. I'm glad you liked it!
